Down the Shore
Vol. 6 - Week of October 12th

This weekend was the Fair Haven Farmers Market, and although its monthly occurrence was held on the morning of an impending tropical storm, the wares on display were worth the trek out between the raindrops.
Some of our favorite things we brought home included: a rosemary sourdough loaf from the Ridiculous Farm (Belford), Rhode Island Clam Chowder from the Lusty Lobster (Highlands), a Pumpkin Spice Crumbie from Guiltless Goodies (Atlantic Highlands), strip steaks from Ferrucci’s Market (Little Silver), baby pumpkins from Dearborn Farms (Holmdel) and a new “Autumn on the Coast” candle from Forge (Red Bank).
🍿 A Night in:
Did you know these spooky films and shows have a tie to the Garden State? Stock up on some Old Monmouth Candies to round out a Made in New Jersey viewing party.
The Shining: Stephen King’s classic is set in Colorado, but stars Monmouth County’s own Jack Nicholson (he was born in Neptune City and attended Manasquan High School where the theater is named after him).
The Amityville Horror: The titular town may be on Long Island, but the 1979 horror flick was actually filmed in Tom’s River.
The Watcher: Based on a true story, a family moves into their dream home in Westfield, NJ only to be plagued by some seriously creepy letters about their new house.
Jaws - The fictional Amity Island is supposed to be in New York, but did you know Matawan, Spring Lake, and Beach Haven had their very own infamous shark attacks in 1916?
Severance - It’s a little more sci-fi dystopian than outright jumpscare, but we had to shout out that Lumon Industries HQ is our very own Bell Works.
🌳A Day Out
Once the storm passes, we recommend spending a day outside at Sandy Hook, part of the Gateway National Recreation Area. Hit the trails - the 300-acre American holly forest is the largest native holly forest on the East Coast - and top it off with a delicious lunch at Mule Barn Tavern. They’re known for their beverages of the same name!
🚙 A Weekend Drive
One of our favorite fall getaways and only a little over an hour’s drive from most Monmouth County towns is Princeton, NJ. When fall has you feeling collegiate, you’ll feel right at home amongst the ivy-clad campus. Nassau Hall, which briefly served as the nation’s capitol building in 1783, is the perfect spot for that fall photo opp as the leaves turn red.
Other things to note for the perfect weekend away:
Fuel up with a delicious Mediterranean lunch at Olive’s
Visit the Princeton Cemetery and search for the notable headstones of Aaron Burr and Grover Cleveland.
Stop for a coffee break at Small World Coffee before perusing the mystery books at the Cloak and Dagger
Brunch it up at PJ’s Pancake House (and don’t miss the seasonal pumpkin pancakes)
Make it an overnight stay at The Graduate Hotel - we love their “Studying” Do Not Disturb signs and tiger-themed decor.
🍽️ A Great Meal
Don’t miss this free community event hosted by the Brielle Library! The Longest Dinner Table’s mission is “the joy of connection, and the magic that happens when people gather, share a meal and have fun.” They have events across the country, and this one’s in our very own backyard. RSVP here for a spot on October 16.
