We hope everyone is safe and sound after the Nor’easter. A lot of towns and businesses along the Shore took a hit, including the Lobster House in Cape May, which we visited just a few weeks ago. Hopefully the recovery is speedy for everyone impacted.
Needless to say, we had a pretty quiet weekend at home. We did, however, get to enjoy some excellent takeout courtesy of Semolina and The Blonde Shallot.
Overall, September has flown by, and October is officially here. This week, we're rounding up some of our favorite ways to enjoy the Shore as we head into fall.

Spooky Season Roundup
It’s (almost) officially spooky season Down the Shore, and we’re excited to share some of our favorite ways to get into the Halloween spirit. Fortunately, you don't have to travel very far. From haunted theaters and ghost tours to centuries-old cemeteries, historic villages and even an actual ghost hunt, New Jersey has plenty of ways to get a little creeped out this month.
Here are a few of the spooky season happenings we're looking forward to, both Down the Shore and a little farther away:
Courtesy of The Paranormal Museum (which claims to be America’s First Paranormal Museum), the tour offers multiple options including a pub tour and a “Ghosts of the Boardwalk Tour”. With the exception of the pub tour (which is only on 10/28), the other tours are offered Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday throughout the month of October.
Returning for its 23rd season, the Brookdale Performing Arts Center turns into a Haunted Theater. In fact, the haunted house is a member of the Haunted House Association (who knew there was such a thing). You can check out the haunted theater throughout October on the following dates: October 9-11, 16-18, 23-25, 29 and 30.
Allaire Village plays host to a number of spooky activities throughout the month of October including a live adaptation of Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, weekly “Night of Frights” and ghost tours. These are ticketed events and you can check out dates and times directly on the Allaire Village website!
Okay, this one is not technically at the Shore, but we’re making an exception. Dating back to the mid-1700s, the Princeton Cemetery is the final resting place for former U.S. President Grover Cleveland, as well as Aaron Burr (a vice president who notoriously shot and killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel). If you are looking for a little bit of history, you should make the drive out to Princeton!
On October 23rd local historian Greg Caggiano will be hosting a special event at Sandy Hook which will cover murders, shipwrecks, myths, and legends. The evening will also include an actual ghost hunt! Advanced registration is required (and will support both the Sandy Hook Foundation and Sandy Hook Young Professionals).
The Dublin House in Red Bank is reportedly home to the ghost of a Mrs. Roberta Patterson, making it a pretty convenient stop for some spooky season fun right in town. You can read more about her story in this Red Bank Green article, which discusses a book about Jersey Shore ghosts and folklore. And if you go hunting for ghosts, we recommend staying for dinner. We're fans of the fish and chips and Irish nachos.
If you have any haunted stories or spooky recommendations to share, let us know! Just reply to this email, and we may include them in the weeks to come.
