Down the Shore
Vol. 3 - Week of September 21st

We wanted to start off this newsletter with a warm welcome to all of our new Down the Shore readers! This past weekend, we enjoyed a sunny Saturday in Spring Lake at the annual Italian Festival, sampling sausage and pepper subs and zeppolis to our hearts’ delight. Now as we enter the last full week of September, here’s what’s top of mind before spooky season is officially upon us:
🍝Dine al fresco at Broadwalk in Red Bank:
Enjoy a final chance to stroll the pedestrian-friendly section of Broad Street in downtown Red Bank (closing for the season on 9/30). If you’re trying to decide what’s for dinner, we recently went to Patrizia’s and had a chicken parm of monumental proportions. It’s BYOB but you can also purchase wines by the bottle - their half bottles are perfect to split for two. Other notable mentions include Surf Taco and Semolina (although not directly on Broad Street, we love their Fair Haven market and trying the restaurant is at the top of our list).
🎃Horse around at Sleepy Hollow Live:
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow performed live by actor Neill Hartley is coming to the Historic Village at Allaire on Saturday, September 27. It’s one night only for $25, and the Event Brite page says to snag your tickets ASAP… people have been known to lose their heads when it sells out. Sorry we had to.
👻Get ghosted in Asbury Park:
We’ve always found ghost tours to be a fantastic way to get to know a city’s history, and we can’t wait to sign up for one in our very own Asbury. Take your pick from their OG ghost tour, Ghosts of the Boardwalk, Haunted Pub Crawl, Paranormal Experience, and Spirits of Asbury Park cocktail tour (limited space).
🏯Spill the tea at Strauss Mansion:
Pay a visit to Atlantic Highland’s very own Strauss Mansion this weekend, built in 1893 by wealthy New York merchant Adolph Strauss as his 21-room Victorian “cottage.” Their Annual Victorian Tea is on Saturday (9/27) served in the parlor and/or wraparound porch, followed by a screening of the 1922 silent film Nosferatu on Sunday (9/28), complete with a live band to play the soundtrack. Sounds like the perfect trick or treat combo.
🍦Fall for Jersey at Nicholas Creamery:
This coffee and donuts flavor combo is a match made in NJ heaven. Nicholas Creamery took Rook’s Pumpkin Style Cold Brew (featured last week) paired with Delicious Orchards’ Apple Cider donuts. We also recently had the Delicious Orchards x Nicholas Creamery Apple Cider, as well as the Pumpkin Pie seasonal flavors. As a reminder, Nicholas Creamery has a bunch of locations across the Shore: Fair Haven, Atlantic Highlands, Tinton Falls, Long Branch, Middletown, and Wall.
